San Diego County Credit Union returns as sponsor of St. Patrick’s Day race
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 14, 2014) — San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is returning as a sponsor of the second annual Run East County, a half-marathon and 5K run/walk on Sunday morning, March 16 in El Cajon.
The road race, featuring a 5K run/walk for those not ready for a 13.1-mile jaunt, will begin and end under the archway in downtown El Cajon. Starting time is 8 a.m. Live bands will perform on the course. Featuring a St. Patrick’s Day theme, the community celebration also will include a children’s play area, costume contest and beer and wine festival. A day-long Cross Fit competition matching teams from the same gym or community group will be held at the same time as the races in a nearby parking lot. Event organizers are expecting about 8,000 people to volunteer, participate in and run the route.
Run East County is organized by RunEC Foundation, a non-profit affiliated with the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program. Event proceeds will benefit several local non-profit organizations that assist people with developmental and other disabilities, including St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, Partnerships with Industry, Noah Homes® and Home of Guiding Hands. Other benefiting organizations will include Stoney’s Kids, Salvation Army® El Cajon and National Guard®.

SDCCU was a sponsor of last year’s inaugural half marathon and 5K, which drew 4,000 runners, walkers, volunteers and supporters and raised $20,000 for various charities.
