4 career moves you should always be making

Early in your career, it’s easy to just think about making money and the ways you can spend it. Before too long, you’ll start thinking about your career, what you want to accomplish, and how you want to be remembered. Feeling good about your career and your personal brand is important to most people. If you want to be satisfied with yourself, here are four career moves you should always keep your focus on…

Building your brand: If you didn’t think about your personal brand early on in your career, it’s never too late to start shaping it into what you want it to look like. Using social media, writing, and public speaking are just a few ways that you can start to develop or reshape your brand. Think about your brand and how it would be affected every time you’re faced with making a difficult decision in the workplace.

Networking: It’s all about who you know. You’re never too old to meet new people and make new connections. Every person you meet may be about to open up a new career opportunity for you, no matter what stage of life you’re in.

Volunteering: You’ll never feel as good as you do when you’ve helped someone out. Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community, network (see above), and it looks fantastic on a resume.

Following your passions: If you’re not passionate about your job, it’ll be hard for you to sustain your current career path. Through your interaction with the community (in your credit union or your volunteer activities) consider what you love most about your job and keep your focus on that. Following your passions will keep you moving on a path that you won’t ever get tired of investing your time on.
