Berger meets with key leaders on Hill as lawmakers work on funding package

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger spent Wednesday on Capitol Hill meeting with credit union champions, including House Majority Leader-elect Steve Scalise, R-La., and Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, to discuss industry priorities and key issues.

NAFCU Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler, Senior Director of Legislative Affairs Chad Adams, and Senior Associate Director of Legislative Affairs Lewis Plush also participated in the meetings.

Scalise is set to become House Majority Leader when the 118th Congress starts Jan. 3, 2023, while Williams is in line to become chairman of the House Small Business Committee. Both have worked on credit union issues and been receptive to NAFCU’s advocacy efforts during their times in Congress.

NAFCU is engaged with lawmakers to have credit union priorities addressed in the end-of-year funding package, including legislation to address marijuana banking issues, extend Central Liquidity Facility (CLF) improvements, modernize requirements for credit union board meetings, and provide transparency around the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund.
