Credit Union Cloud Infrastructure

By Kirk Drake

As we continue our Series on Credit Union Clouds – this week we will move into more of the nuts and bolts.  For those of you that are interested in what infrastructure is required to provide a Credit Union cloud platform – this post will explore that.  In the past post we covered which Credit Union Applications were either ready for the cloud or already cloud delivered.

There are many key components that must be part of a Credit Union Cloud infrastructure.  They aren’t all that different from a normal credit unions technology infrastructure and include the following:

  • Data Center or Computer Room
  • SAN (storage area networks)
  • Switching
  • Servers
  • Database platforms
  • E-mail
  • Virtualization technology
  • Bandwidth
  • Security components (Firewall, IDS/IPS, Spam, Anti-virus etc.)
  • Third-party connections (ATM, Debit, Credit, Online Banking, Federal Reserve etc.)

We aren’t going to go into each of these infrastructure components and how they work on a credit union cloud – but we will go into our philosophy around how we pick solutions that support each of these technologies. There are five key factors that we rank and evaluate each solution on.  These are Redundancy, Replication, Compliance, Flexibility and Value.  Every solution and component is evaluated with these in mind with the goal of creating the best Credit Union Community Cloud.
