Donovan: Talk data breaches with Congress during August recess

This year has been a “wildly successful year in credit union advocacy,” CUNA Chief Advocacy Officer Ryan Donovan said, and during the August recess credit unions have a great opportunity for additional efforts. The House has adjourned until Sept. 4, and the Senate is expected to be out through August 15.

“This isn’t the time to rest on our laurels. Congress is recessing for the summer, members of Congress returning home, they’ll be in their districts for much of August and it’s a fantastic opportunity for you to take some time, meet with your local Congressman of Congresswoman, talk to them about your credit union,” he said. “As a former congressional staffer, I can tell you that the time members of Congress spend in their district is very valuable to them. The meetings you’ll have with them in their home district offices will be longer, you’ll get their attention and have the opportunity to convey their point.”

Donovan went on to say that stakeholders should be addressing data breaches with members of Congress, highlighting CUNA’s Stop the Data Breaches campaign.
