How to steer your career in the right direction

Life is busy, and there are a million responsibilities and distractions that take our time. When it comes to your career, you want to make sure you’re on the right path. Here are three tips for getting where you want to be one day…

Draw a map: Anyone who had their driver’s license before the days of GPS knows that it’s easy to get lost. When you aren’t paying attention where you’re going, you can easily end up on a dead-end road. Like opening up Waze or Google Maps when you get in the car, it helps to have something that tells you how to get where you’re going. Make a list of your career goals and then review your “map” once a year and see how you’ve changed. Change it as often as needed, but keep moving forward.

Reconnect: Sometimes, career growth is about who you know. If there’s no room for growth in your current position, it might be time to do some networking. Go to LinkedIn and add every connection suggestion that you know personally. You never know what kind of opportunities might come your way from an old friend or acquaintance that you haven’t talked to in a while.

Do what you love and love what you do: I 100% stole this one from a t-shirt that I own. If you want to succeed, you have to be doing something you wanna be doing. If you’re not in love with your job, you’re probably not going to get very far. Find passion in your job or find a job that brings you passion. If you’ve got that, you’re well on your way.
