PODCAST: Giving members ‘new hope’

Sue Cuevas ensures Nueva Esperanza Community Credit Union lives up to its name.

When Sue Cuevas was asked to lend a hand to get a new Latino credit union up and running, she wasn’t even sure what a credit union was.

But after one Google search, endless hours of seeking out potential members, and years of hard work, Nueva Esperanza Community Credit Union is providing members “new hope”—exactly what its name means.

“We bring a hope to a lot of families and individuals, even those who are not Latino,” says Cuevas, president of the $2 million asset institution in Toledo, Ohio. “You can have situations where a member’s spouse passed away or they lost their job, and they just need someone to believe in them again. We’ve been able to help them. We’re proud of that and of the name.”
