NWFCU Foundation Makes Giving Fun

Carnival game at member appreciation day supports charity of winner’s choice.

HERNDON, VA (July 6, 2015) — Northwest Federal Credit Union recently hosted “Why Do I Northwest? Day”, a day of celebration and appreciation for their loyal membership. As part of the day’s festivities, Northwest Federal’s charitable arm, the NWFCU Foundation, hosted a Guess-n-Win game for young members. The prize was a charitable donation to the winner’s charity of choice.

“The Foundation believes that charitable giving is a deeply personal and rewarding act,” said Linda Rogus, Executive Director of the NWFCU Foundation. “In giving the winning member the chance to choose which charity benefited from the prize, we hoped to make a difference in the community in a way that would be gratifying for the member.”

12 year-old Youth Club Account member Lauren Brokken guessed the correct number of objects in the jar and was awarded the $100 prize. She chose to donate to a charity that she found personally meaningful—The Ronald McDonald House.

“I chose this charity because my cousin was born with Spina Bifida. The Ronald McDonald House helped them find a place to stay and pay for medical expenses,” said Brokken.

Chris McDonald, Northwest Federal’s President/CEO, says games like the charitable Guess-n-Win are a natural fit for a member appreciation event hosted by the Credit Union.

“Northwest Federal and the Foundation are committed to paying it forward to our members, and the community as a whole,” said McDonald. “We’re proud to encourage our youngest members to give generously as part of learning to be financially responsible. We believe a sound, life-long financial plan includes considering the financial needs of those less fortunate and in need.”
