PSCU Returns as Lead Partner for Family of Races

CUSO Helps Underwrite Expenses to Optimize Donations to Children’s Hospitals

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (February 26, 2013) – 2013 marks the sixth consecutive year that PSCU has served as the Lead Partner for the Credit Union Miracle Day Family of Races, which includes the flagship Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run®. This year’s race is set for April 7 in Washington, D.C. Since 2008, the CUSO has helped to underwrite sponsorship expenses to optimize donations to local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the U.S.

Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc. (CUMD) is the national umbrella organization that represents credit unions as the title sponsor of local races. CUMD’s Family of Races has grown to include the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run‚ the Credit Union SacTown Ten-Mile Run in Sacramento‚ California, also on April 7‚ and two Freedom Runs for our troops overseas. When credit unions and business partners sponsor CUMD’s Family of Races‚ they are supporting all the races.

The races transcend the act of placing one foot ahead of the other in the effort to be the first across the finish line. The funds raised through donations of sponsors and consumers help the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids each year.

Last year‚ a total of $515‚000 was raised for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals‚ bringing the total amount of money raised to over $5.5 million dollars since credit unions became involved in supporting the race.

“The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and the other races in the Credit Union Miracle Day family are some of the highest profile credit union-sponsored events of the year and they go so many miles further by raising awareness on Capitol Hill about the cooperative credit union spirit,” said Fredda McDonald, PSCU’s EVP of Credit Union Experience and CUMD’s newest board member. “Imagine the impact that an expanded family of races could make when one day, we’re running five, ten and even more races in different states across the country to help the kids.”

Although the races are held in Washington, DC, Sacramento, CA and overseas, the money raised is distributed based on where the contributions are collected. Funds raised support the entire network of Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
