What are referral rewards?

The other day as we were onboarding another member, I paused to think about the psychological impact of referrals rewards: what they are meant to be and how they’re presented.

For starters: “Exactly what are referral rewards supposed to do?”

The very word ‘reward’ implies that it’s a behavioral modification tactic: take X action, get Y reward.

Is that what a reward for a referral really is?

I want people to refer my products and services because they are extremely satisfied customers and they love what I do or how I do it. Do I want people to refer their friends and family just because I’m going to reward them for doing so? Maybe that’s what some of you want?
