The CUInsight Experience podcast: India Gary-Martin – Learning leadership (#105)

“When you create an intentional environment, people will begin to think for themselves.” - India Gary-Martin

Thank you for tuning in to episode 105 of The CUInsight Experience podcast, with your host, Randy Smith, co-founder of CUInsight.com. This episode is brought to you by our friends at PSCU. As the nation’s premier payments CUSO, PSCU proudly supports the success of more than 1,500 credit unions.

Today we have a very special guest on the show India Gary-Martin. India’s name may be familiar to you as she was our Keynote recently at the Lead CUInsight Mini-Con Conference series. India is a nationally acclaimed Keynote speaker with over twenty-five years in financial services, and she is also a member of the Forbes Coaches Council. We discuss leadership and specifically how we can provide effective and intentional leadership to our teams that is impactful, what credit unions can do to not only stay relevant but thrive, plus so much more. Enjoy!

India shares how her global perspective has helped her when training leaders. She shares how credit unions have made ten year advancements in the last twelve months in terms of what they thought was possible. India says that if you are waiting for the world to go back to normal, you have the wrong mindset.

India speaks about what makes a strong leader and why it’s important to be an intentional leader with your team. She explains that in this new normal it allows leaders to get creative with their team about space and time concerning the average work day and what that now looks like.

We find out that India was smart but lazy in high school. Her grandfather is the person she thinks about when she hears the word success, and Stevie Wonder’s timeless album Songs in the Key of Life is the best album of all time. India believes that if we want to change the world, then the first step is to listen and seek to understand.
