So when I look at the landscape of mortgage lenders, one company that seems to be outshining many others is Quicken Loans®. Their commercials with the tagline of “Engineered to Amaze” are quite cute and effective and they seem to run constantly. They offer great service as they’ve won the J.D. Powers and Associates award for “Highest in Customer Satisfaction for Primary Mortgage” three years in a row. And they’ve got the YOURgage   – where borrowers select their loan term from eight years to thirty years.

And it’s working; in fact it’s working real well. Check out this USA Today article. Quicken is currently writing about 1 out of every 20 loans in the United States. Their market share is almost that of all Credit Unions combined. And they are aggressively growing.

And in full disclosure, Dan Gilbert, Chairman and Founder of Quicken, is the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers – my favorite NBA team.

But we’ve got advantages too. Advantages that Quicken is just giving to us. So I think we can beat Quicken at the mortgage game.

We’re locally owned and operated. How many Quicken Loans offices do you see in your town? That’s right – none. They’ve got no brick and mortar. So if a borrower wants face-to-face, sit down service for their biggest financial transaction – we win. So promote the local flavor.
